"There’s an argument which says the little transition animations in iOS and Windows Phone create an emotional connection with the user, one that is lacking in Android’s software. Blake Stimac had an amazing rebuttal to that notion: the flexibility of Android allows you to customize your device to such a degree that it is way more personal and emotionally connected to the user than iOS or Windows Phone can be. We’re not just talking about rooting and installing custom ROMs (most people aren’t going to do this), as you can swap out the keyboard if you don’t like it, put highly-functional widgets on your home screen to give you what information you want front and center and even fully replace system functions if you please. While iOS users are happy to finally have Twitter integrated into the OS, Android users have long been able to add Twitter, Facebook and other services thanks to its open API structure."

"Forget about the profession of being a photographer. First be a photographer and maybe the profession will come after. Don’t be in a rush to pay your rent with your camera. Jimi Hendrix didn’t decide on the career of professional musician before he learned to play guitar. No, he loved music and created something beautiful and that THEN became a profession. Larry Towell, for instance, was not a “professional” photographer until he was already a “famous” photographer. Make the pictures you feel compelled to make and perhaps that will lead to a career. But if you try to make the career first, you will just make shitty pictures that you don’t care about."

Can I make it?

I’ve come to a conclusion about success over the past few years. If you want it enough to do the work, you can become successful.

Relating this to photography, a lot of people see it as a job opportunity that doesn’t require much effort. Get a camera, get photoshop, buy some lights, read some tutorials, and you’re a photographer. I’m not trying to discuss that mindset nowb only the effort visualized behind that idea.

If you try to take shortcuts with a job opportunity, you’re bound for failure. The mindset “if only I had these things, I could be successful in this way” is one focusing on all the wrong reasons. That mindset doesn’t seem to contain the willpower that is needed to make things happen.

Sure, some jobs are easier to get then others, but with enough effort and passion for something, you can go places.

Sometimes I wonder if I have enough passion and follow through to make my photography dream go places. I have the passion for this but I don’t always have the motivation to push forward. Then there’s second-guessing and doubts, but I’m trying to never let those drag me down.

It’s a go big or go home world. Be remarkable—you’ll go places.

Man… Chase Jarvis is a beast. So inspirational.

To me photography is stopping an expression. I judge my photography by how much effective it conveys the real and the raw. Taking pictures of people is the best way that I’ve found to do this.

Twitquoteables from Delivering Happiness

I’ve been in the reading this book Delivering Happiness lately. It’s a sweet business book by the owner of Zappos (the online shoe retailer). It’s a great book. I read 150 pages one day and just about finished it today (100ish more pages?). If you know me much at all, you’ll know how much of a feat that really is. I never read.

But that’s all beside the point. Check it out if you appreciate business thought and a great story.

This is simply a post of all the tweets from this book.

It’s more fun to talk with someone who doesn’t use long difficult words but rather short easy words like “What about lunch?”
